ROCK HILL, S.C. - Two first-inning runs were all that
Nealy Lamb needed on Friday, as the Charleston Southern softball team picked up their third win in a row with a 2-1 victory over the Winthrop Eagles in game one of this three-game series.
Lamb picked up her 12
th win of the season with a 7.0 inning, complete game performance. It was her ninth complete game of the season, as she allowed one run on five hits while tying her career high with 10 strikeouts.
The Bucs (22-21, 8-5 in conference) struck first in the top of the first inning with two runs. Winthrop (18-26, 5-8 in conference) retired the first two batters, but
Gracie Prince reached on a throwing error by the third baseman to keep the inning alive.
Prince came around to score on an RBI single by
Weslin Jones, who stole second base and came around to score on an RBI single by
Lacy Johnson.
Winthrop scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and committed four errors in the ballgame.
Weslin Jones led the Buccaneer offense, as she went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader at Terry Field beginning at 1 PM. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
