CHARLOTTE – The Big South announced the winners for their weekly awards on Wednesday afternoon and selected Charleston Southern's Carl Murray IV as the men's freshman of the week. This marks his first of the outdoor season and his fourth of the year when including his honors during the indoor season.
 
Murray placed eighth overall in the 100m dash at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a time of 10.53 in a field of nearly 100 competitors this past weekend. It is the sixth fastest 100m time in the conference this year, and tops among all league freshmen. Murray also finished ninth in the 200m with a time of 21.54 in another strong field at the meet.
 
During the winter indoor season, he was named as the Big South Freshman of the Year. He recorded a 60m time of 6.72 at the Conference Championships for the second-fastest in school history. Additionally, he ran a 21.55 in the 200 during the winter which ranks as 6^th-best in school history.
 
Charleston Southern is currently in finals week and the student-athletes are preparing for the Big South Championships which are less than two weeks away. The conference meet is slated to be held on the campus of High Point University this year with the action to take place from May 6-8.
