NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team earned a doubleheader split on Saturday in back-to-back one-run games, dropping the first game 1-0 while evening the three-game series with the Longwood Lancers with a 6-5 win in the night cap.
Nealy Lamb was flawless in game one, as she allowed just one unearned run; however, the Bucs (22-23, 8-7 in conference) could not get the bats going. Her record dropped to 12-8 on the season.
The Lancers (17-30, 10-6 in conference) scored the lone run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, as the Bucs booted a ground ball in the infield followed by an RBI double. In the inning prior, the Bucs had runners at second and third but were unable to capitalize. They stranded five base runners in the opening game.
In game two, the Bucs (23-23, 19-7 in conference) got four runs in the first inning without recording a hit. Both
Madelyne Lee and
Weslin Jones walked to start the inning followed by an error by the first baseman, which allowed
Gracie Prince to reach.
Then, Carson Sandvig hit a groundball to third base, and a high throw from the third baseman scored three runs. Two batters later,
Charlee Yourman brought in Sandvig with a sacrifice fly.
That was enough for
Annah Junge. After allowing a solo home run top of the second inning, the Bucs scored two more in the bottom half. Lee singled, and
Weslin Jones followed that with an RBI double. Sandvig singled her home to make it 6-1 in favor of the Bucs.
The score was 6-2 entering the top of the fifth inning, when the Lancers (17-31, 10-7 in conference) were able to get to Junge for three runs including a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 6-5. That was the end for Junge, who allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out three.
Riley Lauffer was able to finish the inning, striking out the lone batter that she faced.
Nealy Lamb picked up the two-inning save, as she was able to overcome runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth to earn her fourth save of the season. Junge improved to 7-9 on the season with the win.

The 2024 home finale will be on Sunday beginning at 1 PM, as the Bucs will look to win the series. The Bucs will hold their Senior Day ceremonies following the game, as they will be honoring
Annah Junge,
Lacy Johnson and
Kendal Cook in their final home game of their career.
