CLINTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team dropped their series opener with the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Friday night, as a throwing error allowed the winning run to score in a 4-3 loss.
After a sacrifice bunt moved a runner to second base with two outs, a throwing error by the Buccaneers (16-18, 3-4 in conference) allowed for the Blue Hose (14-24, 4-3 in conference) to steal game one.
Charleston Southern had a 3-1 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning before the Blue Hose tied the game. After retiring the first two batters of the inning,
Nealy Lamb allowed a two-run double to make it 3-3.
The Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a
Carsten Sandvig RBI double. After the Blue Hose tied it in the bottom of the second inning,
Harper Schoeneweis scored
Blakley Kingsmore and
Madelyne Lee to make it 3-1.
Annah Junge was the starting pitcher for the Bucs, going 4.0 innings allowing one run on five hits and striking out four batters. Lamb was charged with the loss to fall to 8-6 on the year. She went 2.2 innings allowing three runs (one earned) and striking out three. The Bucs made two errors on the night.
