Nealy Lamb Takes Home Four Big South Honors; Six Buccaneer Softball Players Land on All-Conference And Academic Teams

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team showed out this season on the Big South All-Conference teams, as six players received All-Big South recognition. The conference unveiled the end of the season awards on Wednesday.

Two players, Nealy Lamb, and Gracie Prince were the two representatives on the First Team, while Carsten Sandvig and Madelyne Lee were named to the Second Team, and BriAnna Brooks was an Honorable Mention. Sandvig and Lamb were also representatives on the All-Freshman Team.

Also recognized by the conference for her work off the field is Graduate, Annah Junge. The Ballwin, MO native was an All-Academic recipient for the fourth time in her career and was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third-straight year. After graduating with a 4.0 GPA with a degree in chemistry, the right-handed pitcher has a 4.0 while getting her master's degree in biology.

Nealy Lamb stole the show for not only Charleston Southern but the entire Big South, taking home four awards. The first-year player was named First-Team All-Conference, All-Freshman, Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. She is the first player in Big South history to win both Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year.

The Cades, S.C. native is the first ever Charleston Southern pitcher to receive Pitcher of the Year and the first player to win Freshman of the Year since Rachael Stern in 2001. She posted a 12-8 record on the season with a 1.58 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 133.0 innings. During conference play, she obtained a 6-3 record with 0.87 ERA allowing just eight earned runs in 64.2 innings.

In her junior season, Gracie Prince lands on an all-conference list for the first time in her career. She appeared in 46 of the team's 48 games this season, making 45 starts while leading the team in home runs with three. Behind the plate, she had just four passed balls and threw out 11 baserunners trying to steal.

After being named to the preseason all-conference team, Madelyne Lee became the consistent leadoff hitter for the Bucs in 2024. The sophomore from Byron, GA was one of two players on the Buccaneer softball team to start all 48 games this season, spending time at second base, right field, and designated player. She hit a team-best .315 on the year while collecting a team-high 46 hits, 21 runs and nine doubles while swiping 12 bases.

Carsten Sandvig burst onto the scenes in her freshman campaign and became an immediate impact player for Head Coach Christi Musser. The Fountain Hills, AZ native played in 43 games while making 41 starts at both shortstop and designated player. While doing so, she hit. 279 with a home run and led the team in slugging (.426) as well as RBI's (16), triples (4) and stolen bases (13).

After winning the starting right field job a few weeks into the season, BriAnna Brooks went on to appear in 41 games while making 28 starts. In her redshirt sophomore season, Brooks showed her versatility by moving up and down the batting order. Against Big South opponents, the Queen Creek, AZ native hit a team-best .354 and had a .415 on base percentage. This is her first time being recognized by the Big South.

The 2024 Buccaneer softball team had the most players selected to All-Big South teams since 2017, when seven players were recognized.

All six players will receive their rewards at the Big South Tournament this week in Rock Hill, S.C., as they look to capture their first conference championship since 2014. The Bucs will play USC Upstate on Thursday at 4 PM in the first round.
