CLEMSON – Women's Track and Field started their weekend at the Orange and Purple Invite on the campus of Clemson University on Friday.
Chloe Greene's performance in the heptathlon highlighted the performances by the Buccaneers as she broke her school record and moved into the Big South's all-time top ten for the event.
Greene's showing in the pentathlon continued to cement her legacy in CSU athletics history as the top multis athlete the program has ever had. She set new personal bests in three of the events and finished the day with a score of 3666 to take third at the meet. Her score is more than 150 points higher than her previous career-high and placed her at 6
th in Big South history for the event. She opened with a 60m hurdles time of 9.03 and high jump of 1.53m/5' 0.25". She then threw a personal best in the shot put of 9.28m/30' 5.5", had a long jump career best of 5.76m/18' 10.75" to remain in 4
th in school history and closed with a PB in the 800m of 2:18.20 which keeps her at 6
th in school history. Her previous
The distance crew continued to impress as they have early so far this winter.
Freya Buglass and
Charlize Antia broke into the top ten in school history for the one mile. Buglass dropped a 5:02.96 for 4
th all-time while Antia recorded a 5:07.74 for 10
th. Additionally,
Sarah Jacobs competed in the 5K and slotted herself in 5
th in the event and now 4
th in school history as she had a 17:43.64,
In the 60m,
Grenisha Thomas was the fastest of the Charleston Southern student-athletes, recording a time of 7.63. The time ties her career-best in the event. In the 400m, the Buccaneers'
Maddie St. Louis led the team in the event crossing the line in 57.56 for 19
th overall.
In the 60m hurdles prelims,
Austyn Koppe had the top time from CSU with an 8.67 of the three Bucs who competed in it. Koppe and
Maeva Tahou each advanced to the semifinals for the event with Koppe running an 8.74 and Tahou lowering her time from earlier in the day to a personal best 8.80.
Tahou also competed in the long jump, being just a hundredth of a meter off her personal best. She jumped 5.56m/18' 3" to claim 12
th overall. Her career-best was set just two weeks ago at the Gamecock Opener where she went 5.57m.
Additionally in field events,
Zemaya Carson had a top ten finish in the weight throw going 16.58m/54' 4.75" to claim 9
th overall.
Hannah Hall and
Josaphine Ankney each threw personal bests with their best marks of the day being 14.30m/46' 11" and 14.03m/46' 0.5".
The Orange and Purple Invitational will continue tomorrow with the women's 3K to begin the track events for the day at 11 a.m. The women's shot put and high jump start the field events for Saturday at 10 a.m.
