COLUMBIA – Charleston Southern Women's Track and Field completed their time at the 2025 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon, finishing as the league runners-up. This is now the second time in school history that the Bucs have finished that high, totaling 167 points during the week.
The Buccaneers had one event championship on the day in the women's 4x400m with a meet record and near school record time. Additionally, there were 11 podium finishes for Charleston Southern across the final day.
Chloe Greene won the league's Most Valuable Athlete award after scoring 33 points across her five events competed in along with a spot on the All-Academic Team.
The relay team took the spotlight on the day for the squad with their meet championship. They ran a season best time of 3:42.42 which becomes the new meet record for the Big South Championships and the 83
rd fastest time in Division I this season. It ranks as the second-fastest in school history and the fourth in conference history. The relay consisted of
Maddie St. Louis,
Grenisha Thomas,
Brenda du Toit and
Caroline Aslerin.
The day started for the Bucs with the triple jump as three of them took scoring finishes and all four of their entrees recording a career best mark. Greene was the second overall finisher with a jump of 11.64m while
Maeva Tahou went 11.63m with these now ranking as the 9
th and 10
th best in school history. Du Toit claimed seventh with her jump of 10.79m.
After this, Charleston Southern placed four in the top eight for the women's mile.
Sarah McCartney had the top finish for CSU with third and a time of 4:52.18, less than a second away from a personal best.
Keerstin Augustin,
Freya Buglass and
Charlize Antia each had personal bests taking 5-6-8 with times of 4:56.66, 4:56.77 and 4:58.12. Augustin remains in second in school history while Buglass moves up to third and Antia to fifth for the event.
Next up was the women's 60m hurdles finals. The Buccaneers advanced four student-athletes through the prelims on Friday to take up half the spots in the finals with them going 2-3-4-7 in it.
Austyn Koppe recorded a time of 8.55 for second and the top time among the CSU runners. Chloe Maé Wilks was third at 8.59 with Thomas and Greene each running personal bests of 8.72 and 8.80 for fourth and seventh. Thomas' time places her 9
th in the school's all-time leaderboards for the event.
Charleston Southern also showed their depth in the 400m as they had four student-athletes advance to the finals in the event and go 3-4-5-8 with each of the top three CSU runners recording personal best times. St. Louis led the group with a third-place finish with a time of 55.18 for third-fastest in school history. Aslerin had a 56.33 for 4
th and to be tied for 8
th in program history. Du Toit recorded 57.02 for 5
th while Cupp had 58.38 for 8
th.
The top distance runners for the program trotted back out later in the afternoon for the 3K and had three student-athletes score in the race. McCartney took 5
th with her time of 9:44.53 and Augustin in 6
th at 9:57.20.
Sarah Jacobs claimed 8
th with her new personal best in the event at 9:58.28 for the fourth best in program history. In another distance final,
Freya Buglass took 6
th in the 800m with a 2:13.88.
Thomas and
Nourhan Hassan were the last athletes to compete on the day, each running the 60m and 200m finals. Thomas claimed second in each of them with personal bests in both. Her 7.51 in the 60m keeps her at 5
th in the CSU record book and 24.54 in the 200m keeps her at 8
th in program history. Hassan had a time of 7.87 for 8
th in the 60m and 25.41 in the 200m for 7
th.
The meet concludes the 2025 indoor season for the Buccaneers. They begin the outdoor season at the Weems Baskin Invitational which will be held from Friday, March 21 through Saturday, March 22.
