CHARLESTON S.C. - It was a perfect weekend for the Charleston Southern softball team, as they completed the series sweep of the Manhattan Jaspers on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 win at CSU Softball Field.
Riley Lauffer picks up the win in relief for the Buccaneers (9-7) who have now won six games in a row. She pitched the final 4.0 innings allowing just one hit and striking out four batters.
Mackenzie Rutkoff pitched the first 3.0 innings for the Buccaneers allowing one run on three hits while striking out three batters.
Charleston Southern scored first in the bottom of the second inning, as
Jordyn Dimond led off with a single and came around to score on an RBI single from
Harper Schoeneweis. After Manhattan (0-8) tied it in the top of the third inning, the Buccaneers took advantage of some miscues from the Jaspers, as
Carsten Sandvig brought home Blakely Kingsmore on a fielding error by the third baseman to make it 2-1.
The Buccaneers picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Kingsmore reached on a bunt single and went to second on a throwing error by the third baseman. After stealing third, she came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Emma Villaescusa.
The Buccaneers have now won six games in a row for the first time since 2019. Their first midweek slate of the season this Wednesday, as they travel across the state to take on the Clemson Tigers. It will be a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM and is available on the ACCNX.
