Box Score CLINTON, S.C. - The No. 5 Charleston Southern softball team played the No. 4 Winthrop Eagles on Wednesday evening, dropping the contest 6-0 in the first game of the Big South Tournament.
The Eagles jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning, as back-to-back doubles with two outs gave them a 3-0 lead. Five of Winthrop's six runs on the evening came with two outs, as a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth inning made it 6-0.
Offensively, the Buccaneers managed four hits and stranded nine baserunners. In the circle, Riley Luaffer allowed six runs in 3.2 innings pitched, while
Mackenzie Rutkoff pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and allowed only one hit.

The Buccaneers will await the result of the 12:00 game tomorrow between the No. 2 USC Upstate Spartans and the No. 3 Longwood Lancers, as they will face the loser of game two in an elimination game scheduled for 5:00 PM on ESPN+.
