Buccaneer Women Enjoy Successful Day at Orange & Purple Invite

CLEMSON – The Charleston Southern women's track and field team traveled to Clemson for the second time this season and competed in the Orange & Purple Invite. The schedule was moved to be completed almost entirely on Friday after originally being scheduled for Friday-Saturday due to the impending winter weather. The Buccaneers had another big day on the track, with great performances turned in across all groups.
 
In the 200m, Maeva Tahou and Maya Clark ran times of 24.68 and 24.71 with each marking a personal best. Tahou's time is the ninth-fastest in school history for the event while Clark's was just off the top ten. Grenisha Thomas and Danea Niles also had good runs with times of 25.21 and 25.24.
 
The 400m had one of their best showings of the day for Charleston Southern. Clark, Caroline Aslerin and Brenda du Toit all ran career bests. Clark took 8th individually with her time of 55.43 and ranks fourth in program history for the event. Aslerin moved up to ninth all-time at CSU with her 55.94 and du Toit turned in a time of 56.84.
 
In the one mile, Lucy McNamara ran a 4:55.11 in her first collegiate race in the distance. The time ranks as the second-best in program history. Freya Buglass had a 5:01.10 in it.
 
The 3K was another race that helped lend the day to be a great success for Charleston Southern. Katrina Husby, Charlize Antia, Kallie Henderson and Giada D'Agostino all ran personal bests in the event and now claim the #7-10 spots for the fastest times in the event in school history. They crossed the line in 10:05.91, 10:10.74, 10:11.97 and 10:12.67.
 
The Buccaneers also had another solid day in the 60m hurdles with three entrees advancing to the semifinals. Tahou had a 8.57 in the prelims and a personal best of 8.53 in the semis to become tied for the third-fastest time in program history for the event. Chloe Maé Wilks ran a season best of 8.60 in the prelims and Thomas had a personal best of 8.66 in the round for the eighth best performance in school history.
 
In the field, Tahou also competed in the long jump and had a 5.68m for a career best and seventh best in school history. Yassine Kamara had the best throw of the Bucs in the shotput with a 13.59m. Zemaya Carson led them in the weight throw with a 17.85m. Lily Rowan had another personal best in the weight throw with a 15.94 to slide up one spot to eighth in the school record books.
 
The 4x400m relay squad did not finish with a collision in the exchange zone going into the third leg of the race ending their day.
 
Charleston Southern will now enjoy another weekend off in the coming days before traveling to Blacksburg, Virginia for the Doc Hale Invite hosted by Virginia Tech. The meet is scheduled to be held from Friday, February 6 through Saturday, February 7.
