CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern began their spring outdoor season this weekend with the CSU Buc Invite and 49er Classic. Between the two meets, there were four new school records set.
49ER CLASSIC
Maya Clark won the 400m at the meet with her time of 53.63 for a new personal best. The time ranks as the second-best in school history and the ninth-best in conference history.
Caroline Aslerin also raced in the event and had a 55.16 for third at the meet and will have her time rank as eighth in program history.
In the 100m hurdles, Tahou ran a 13.60, just 0.02 seconds off her personal best in the event. She won the event and the Bucs had all four of their runners place in the top eight for the event with
Grenisha Thomas in fourth at 14.26,
Katelyn Grate in seventh at 14.38 and Chloe Mae Wilks in eighth at 14.52.
In the 100m,
Maeva Tahou continued to show out by being the top CSU finisher in the event with a time of 11.77 for sixth overall. Thomas had an 11.92 for tenth in the field. Tahou's time will rank tied for ninth in school history.
Danea Niles was the fastest Buccaneer in the 200m with a 25.06, just ahead of teammate Aslerin in 25.19.
Tahou closed out her day by competing in the triple jump and had a best mark of 12.80m (42' 0") to break the school record and hold the third-best performance in the event in Big South history.
Chloe Greene made her return to the blue and gold at the meet by competing in the heptathlon. She placed in the top six of all the events among the competitors and had a total score of 5149 for a new career best. It marks a school record as well as the fourth-best score in the event in conference history.
In the 4x400m relay, Charleston Southern's Aslerin, Thomas,
Barbara de Kock and Clark finished first among the entrees with their 3:39.08. The time ranks as the second-best in program history and the sixth-best in Big South history.
CSU BUC INVITE
Carson set a new personal best and school record in the hammer throw to start off the meet. She had a 57.58m, winning the event by over 10 meters. Rowan had a time of 45.61m for third at the meet and
Avah Morrison claimed fourth with a 40.23m.
In the shot put, Rowan claimed her first career victory. She tossed a personal best of 13.49m to claim ninth in the school record books for the event.
Josaphine Ankney was second in 13.05m and Carson was third at 12.94m.
Carson won the discus at the meet with a mark of 48.93m. Morrison claimed third with a personal best of 41.68m and Rowan had a 40.46m in her time competing in the event collegiately.
In the javelin,
Amelia Stembridge recorded a career best in the event with a mark of 39.50m. This slides her up from third to second in the school record books for the javelin.
The day came to an end with the one mile with the school records getting rewritten by the Buccaneers.
Charlize Antia won the event with a time of 5:03.98 and
Freya Buglass had a 5:06.39 for second with both being under the previous school record in the distance. There were multiple other new top ten marks for the event set with all finishers running sub 5:20.

The Buccaneers will be back in action next weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State. The meet will be held from Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28.
