SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate clinched the series on Saturday over Charleston Southern with a score of 15-9. The Bucs tallied six runs in the final two innings, but it was not enough to overcome their early deficit.
The Spartans tallied three runs in the bottom of the first for an early lead. The Bucs rallied with three runs of their own in the top of the second to tie it at three apiece. In the bottom of the second, the Spartans erupted for eight runs and another two in the third and one in the fifth for a 14-3 advantage.
Charleston Southern's offense clocked In four runs in the top of the eighth and two in the ninth to bring the score closer. USC Upstate got another solo homer in the eighth to reach the mark of 15 runs on the day.
Ean Czech led the team at the plate with two hits while nine others had one on the day.
Alex Marot led the squad in RBIs with two and Czech had two runs scored for the most.
On the mound, the Bucs used six different arms with
Tristan Stephenson throwing a scoreless sixth and seventh innings, retiring all six batters he faced. The others pitchers used were
Brady Bickett who started,
Aydan Smith,
Bryson Huwar,
Kayden Althoff and
Corbin Payne.
The final contest of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. with the game to be held at Harley Park and to be available live on ESPN+.
