CHARLOTTE – Charleston Southern concluded their outdoor track & field regular season on this weekend at the Charlotte Invite. At the meet, a trio of school records got broken at the meet with each coming in near the top of the league's all-time top ten as well.
In the final event of the meet, the Buccaneer's 4x400m relay squad broke the school record with their time of 3:34.38 which ranks as the second-best in conference history. The group included
Maya Clark,
Grenisha Thomas,
Maeva Tahou and
Caroline Aslerin. The "B" team had a 3:53.62 and the 4x100m relay squad had a 45.75 on the day. The group included Danea Niles, Thomas,
Katelyn Grate and Clark and have their time ranked as eighth in school history.
Tahou won the 100m hurdles at the meet with a personal best of 13.24 for a new school record and third-fastest in Big South history. Chloe Mae Wilks ran a season best of 13.80 just a hundredth off a second off her personal best while Grate had a 14.23 and
Brenda du Toit had a 14.80.
Clark and Aslerin claimed fourth and fifth in the 400m at the meet with their times of 53.91 and 54.67. Aslerin's marked a new personal best and the sixth-fastest in program history.
In the 400m hurdles, Thomas and du Toit both had season bests in the event with their times of 59.02 and 60.28.
Chloe Greene had a 60.73 and
Barbara de Kock ran a 62.38.
In the 100m, Niles had a time of 12.25. In the 200m, Grate and Wilks both ran personal bests with a 24.68 and a 25.57.
Freya Buglass,
Lucy McNamara and
Sienna Rose each had standouts races in the 800m. Buglass had a season best of 2:11.39 while the others each had a personal best. McNamara's 2:12.69 ranks as fourth in school history and Rose's 2:14.45 comes in as eighth in program history.
Charlize Antia had the best time of the Buccaneers' entrees in the 1500m with her new career best time of 4:31.56 to move her up to fourth in CSU history. Buglass and
Keerstin Augustin went 1-2 in the open section with their 4:39.69 and 4:39.84 with
Brianna Adams rounding out the group's outing with a 4:50.14.
In the 5K,
Giada D'Agostino won the open section with her time of 17:44.49 which was a new personal best for her. In the invite heats,
Keerstin Augustin had a 17:07.42 while
Katrina Husby ran a 17:54.08. In the 3k steeplechase,
Elizabeth Shaylor had a season best of 11:37.63.
In the discus throw,
Zemaya Carson had the best throw of the Charleston Southern entrees with a 47.82.
Avah Morrison had a personal best of 42.05m for ninth in school history and
Lily Rowan went 39.07m. In the hammer throw, Rowan had a career best of 49.85m to slide up to ninth in program history while Morrison had a 36.06m.
Chloe Greene recorded a season best in the javelin with her 39.62m which gave her second at the meet.
Amelia Stembridge had a 34.67m for fifth at it. In the shot put,
Josaphine Ankney had a 12.20m and Morrison had a 12.06m.
In the long jump, Tahou won the event with a best mark of 6.20 on the day for a school record and the first-ever Buccaneer to go over six meters in program history. Additionally, her mark ranks as the fourth-best in league history. Greene had a 5.76 and Grate jumped 4.94. In the triple jump. Grate went 10.56.
Charleston Southern will now enjoy a pair of weekends off and time to put in their final preparations for the Big South Championships. This year, the meet will be held on the campus of High Point University from Monday, May 11 through Wednesday, May 13.
