Charleston Southern Sweeps Longwood on Sunday Scoring 13 Runs in the Sixth

FARMVILLE, VA – Charleston Southern used a 13-run inning on Sunday against Longwood to clinch the weekend sweep over the Lancers. The Buccaneers won by a final score of 21-3 as they moved to 28-19 overall and 12-9 in Big South play.
 
Alex Marot got the offense going in the first with an RBI double in the first to score Kain Collins. In the bottom half, Longwood took a 2-1 lead with a hit by pitch and single scoring a run.
 
In the second and third innings, the Buccaneer stringed together three runs in each inning to reclaim the lead and stretch out a big advantage. Blake Edgmon and Collins had back-to-back RBI singles followed by Caden Wolfley with a sacrifice fly to cap off the second. In the third, Collins had a sacrifice fly and Wolfley had a two RBI double for the scoring in that.
 
In the fifth, Edgmon had an RBI groundout to score Nathan Martinez. In Longwood's half of the inning, they had a solo home run to bring the score to 8-3. After this the Charleston Southern offense broke loose in the sixth scoring 13 runs in the frame.
 
In the sixth, the Buccaneers batted around the lineup a full two times with them scoring at least one run on eight different plays. Chandler Tuupo had a pair of RBI singles in the inning while Garrison Barile had an RBI single and Lucas Pringle with a two RBI double. The Lancers allowed five walks with the bases loaded to allow more runs to score.
 
Matt Gallant started and earned the win, moving to 6-0 on the season. He threw the first 4.2 innings of the game allowing five hits and three walks to go with three earned runs. Aydan Smith was the lone arm used out of the bullpen tossing 2.1 frames, retiring all seven batters he faced.
 
As a team, Charleston Southern finished with 14 hits with eight players in the starting lineup getting at least one hit. Collins, Marot, Tuupo and Edgmon each had two hits. Wolfley led the team in RBIs with four while Collins and Edgmon had three apiece. Additionally, the team drew nine walks with Martinez getting three himself. Collins swiped three bases as well in the contest.
 
Charleston Southern will return to Nielsen Field @ CSU Ballpark this weekend for their regular season finale weekend. They host Radford from Thursday-Saturday with all three games to be available live on ESPN+.
