Women's Track Takes Runner-Up Finish at Big South Championships with Program Record 247 Points

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Charleston Southern set a program record for team points at the Big South Championships on Wednesday evening claiming runners-up accolades. They collected 247 points and another three individual event championships on the final day of the meet.
 
The day began with Chloe Greene recording a personal best in the high jump. On her final attempt at 1.63m, she was able to clear the bar for a new career best. The mark ranks as the sixth-best mark in program history and the best by a CSU student-athlete in over a decade.
 
Zemaya Carson claimed her third podium finish in her third event of the week on Wednesday. She took third in the discus throwing 47.18m for her best mark of the day to take the All-Conference honors.
 
In the javelin, Greene threw for a season best of 44.32m on her third attempt of the day to move into second in the standings and claim another All-Conference accolade. Amelia Stembridge also scored in the event as she was eighth with a 35.97m.
 
The first event on the track was the 4x100m relay and the Bucs' ran a season best time of 44.95 to claim second. The relay team included Maya Clark, Danea Niles, Grenisha Thomas and Maeva Tahou.
 
In the 1500m, each of the top eight finishers ran either a season best or personal best time. Charleston Southern had three people score, each with a career best, with Freya Buglass taking third while Keerstin Augustin and Lucy McNamara claiming fifth and sixth. Buglass' time was a 4:27.51 for a new school record while Augustin had a 4:31.82 for sixth in CSU history and McNamara had a 4:32.18 for seventh in program history.
 
In the 100m hurdles, Tahou and Thomas went 1-2 with times of 13.25 and 13.45. Tahou's time ranks as a new meet record as it was just off her personal best of 13.24. Thomas moved up to fourth in CSU history for the event. Greene took fourth with a 13.82 and Brenda du Toit ran 14.08.
 
The Buccaneers placed three runners in the top five of the 400m. Clark ran a 53.79 for second overall and Caroline Aslerin had a personal best of 53.82 for third-best in CSU history. Barbara de Kock ran a career best as well for fifth at the meet with a time of 55.69.
 
In the 100m, Tahou and Thomas took second and third place as each ran a personal best in the finals. Tahou had an 11.52 to move into a tie for second in school history and Thomas ran 11.54 to be tied for fourth in program history.
 
In the 800m, The Bucs went 3-4-5 as each of the Charleston Southern runners recorded personal best times. Buglass had a 2:09.35, Sienna Rose had a 2:09.96 and McNamara was 2:10.30. Buglass' marks another new school record set on the day while Rose ranks third and McNamara is fourth.
 
Charleston Southern took four of the top five marks in the 400m hurdles. Thomas won the event with a season best of 58.73. Right behind her was du Toit who had a 58.73 for a personal best who claimed second and the new third-best in program history. Greene and de Kock were fourth and fifth with career bests of 59.94 and 60.48 with Greene taking sixth in school history and de Kock taking seventh.
 
In the 200m, Tahou and Clark each ran a season best in the event with them claiming second and fifth. Tahou ran a 23.51 and Clark 24.23 during the finals heat.
 
Augustin ran a personal best in the 5K and claimed second overall in the field for the event. She had a time of 17:01.81 to remain in second in school history.
 
The day came to an end with the women's 4x400m relay running facility record and meet record time of 3:34.61 to win. The group included Clark, Thomas, Tahou, Aslerin running on the relay.
 
Charleston Southern will have multiple qualifiers for the NCAA Regionals with the Buccaneers to find out the fate next week. This year, the NCAA East Regionals will be held in Lexington, Kentucky from Wednesday, May 27 through Saturday, May 30.
