Lady Bucs Sweep Gardner-Webb for Third-Straight Win

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Charleston Southern volleyball team capped a perfect 3-0 week with a three-set (29-27, 25-16, 25-19) sweep at Gardner-Webb Saturday, Oct. 26 at Paul Porter Arena. CSU (9-13) has completed the first half of confrence play at 3-5, while the Runnin' Bulldogs are now 5-18, 0-8 in Big South matches.

The Lady Bucs posted 43 kills, hitting .340 as a team, the second match this week in which they have posted a .300 or better hitting percentage. G-W posted a .206 attack percentage, registering 38 kills. CSU recorded 41 digs to Gardner-Webb's 32. The Lady Bucs served up a season-best eight aces.

Amanda Hill led all players with 20 kills, hitting .462. She added 11 digs for her 14th double-double of the season and 60th of her career. Saturday was the 10th match this season in which she has had 20+ kills. She is now 6th all-time in Big South history with 1,735 kills.

Cori Holeman connected for nine kills on 14 attempts with no errors, hitting a career-best .643. Holeman posted four blocks. Tricia Rodl recorded a match-high 14 digs. Amy Nokes dished out 36 assists. Hill and Emily Libertowski recorded two aces apiece.

For Gardner-Webb, Molly Rhyne registered 12 kills at a .310 clip, while Tyler Cockrell hit .400 with 10 kills. Evan Moffitt posted 29 assists.

Set one proved to be tightly-contested, with 14 ties and six lead changes. Gardner-Webb led, 23-20, before CSU responded with a 4-0 rally, receiving kills by Nokes and Hill and a Klinger ace. The Lady Bucs held a 24-23 lead, but G-W earned three out of the next four points to force set point at 26-25.

Hill sent down a kill to fend off set point, and added another for a 27-26 Buccaneer advantage. Following a Bulldog sideout, Hill earned another kill and Holeman and Crissy Skokan combined for a block to give the Lady Bucs the first set, 29-27. The 56-point first set Saturday was tied for CSU's longest set this season, as the team won the first set of the campaign, 29-27 vs. Elon Aug. 27.

The Lady Bucs rolled to a 25-16 victory in the middle set, thanks to a .355 attack percentage and 16 kills. CSU led from the opening serve, building an early 7-1 advantage. Following a brief Gardner-Webb rally, the Lady Bucs built their lead to 10 points at 16-6 with a 6-0 surge. Hill and Klinger posted to kills apiece; Emily Libertowski served an ace, and Holeman and Nokes teamed up for a block during the rally. CSU closed out set two with a 4-0 run, featuring three Holeman kills.

CSU hit .393 as a team during set three, but trailed 15-13 after 28 serves. The Lady Bucs then staged a 4-0 lead to regain the momentum and the lead, 17-15. G-W scored on the next rally point, but the visitors pulled away, clinching the match with a 25-19 victory in set three.

CSU Head Coach Danyel Bellush said, "I loved our effort out there today. The team played with great energy, and we found a way to win."

The Lady Bucs will begin the second half of the conference schedule Tuesday, Oct. 19, visiting Winthrop at 6 p.m. Gardner Webb next competes Saturday, Oct. 23 at Liberty.
