CSU Honors Seniors, Falls to PC, 3-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern volleyball team fell to visiting Presbyterian College 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23) in front of 725 fans on Senior Night at CSU Field House Saturday, Nov. 13. The Lady Bucs (12-19, 6-10 Big South) have earned the sixth seed in the Big South Tournament, while the Blue Hose (13-18, 6-10) have concluded their season.

The Lady Bucs will draw the sixth seed for the Big South Tournament, hosted by Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. CSU will compete against No. 3 Asheville Thursday, Nov. 18 at 2:30 p.m.

PC placed three players in double-figures in kills on the evening, registering 60 total kills at a .208 to CSU's 47, as the Lady Bucs hit .163. The Blue Hose held a 61-54 edge in digs, while CSU led, 5-3 in aces and posted 11 blocks to Presbyterian's seven.

Amanda Hill posted a match-high 25 kills and added eight digs. She has recorded 534 kills this season and 1,870 for her career.

Cori Holeman registered seven blocks, including one solo and six block assists. She has now moved into second place at CSU with 313 block assists, passing current assistant coach Carrie Yohe.

Tricia Rodl led all players with 19 digs, and also served up a season-high four aces. Amy Nokes dished out 37 assists and added eight digs. Amberle Trinder contributed four block assists.

For PC, Presley Mabrey collected 19 kills and 10 digs, while Lisa Shelley added 18 kills and 16 digs. Amanda Kettles registered 12 kills. Kilee Ruppe posted a match-high 49 assists.

CSU took a quick 5-1 lead in set one, as Rodl earned aces on back-to-back points, followed by a Holeman kill. After four rally points, Presbyterian went on a 6-0 run to make the score 9-7. The Lady Bucs sliced the deficit to one at 11-10 on a kill by Hill, but PC then built a 17-14 advantage. Kills by Nokes and Trinder brought CSU to within one, and a PC error tied it at 17-17. The Lady Bucs evened the set again at 18-18, but Presbyterian pulled away late for the 25-22 win.

The Lady Bucs bounced back with a hard-fought, 26-24 victory in set two, out-hitting the Blue Hose, .226 to .118. The second set featured 11 ties and five lead changes. A 4-0 CSU run gave the home team a 14-10 lead, as Hill and Trinder earned kills. The Lady Bucs led, 17-14 following a Crissy Skokan kill. The Blue Hose scored the ensuing three points to tie the set, 17-17. PC took the lead briefly, at 19-18, but CSU responded with a 3-0 run to earn a 21-18 edge. The Lady Bucs led, 23-21, before PC stormed back to level the score. Skokan sent down a kill for a 24-23 advantage, and CSU won set two, 26-24, converting on its second set point try.

The Blue Hose won set three by a 25-20 score, with Mabrey posting seven kills and Hill earning six for CSU. With the scored tie at 16-all, PC attained the next four points and held off a late charge for the 25-20 win and 2-1 lead in the match.

During set four, the Lady Bucs hit .265 and PC registered a .263 hitting percentage. The Blue Hose led, 18-13, before CSU staged a 5-0 rally. Trinder, Nokes, and Hill posted kills and Hill and Trinder combined for a block during the set-tying run. PC took a 21-19 lead before Hill and Holeman scored the next four points for a 23-21 CSU edge. Following a Presbyterian timeout, the Blue Hose scored the final four points of the match to win, 25-23.

CSU Head Coach Danyel Bellush said, "I thought it was a good match. PC came out and played great volleyball. All the credit to them; they played fantastic. We have to just keep our heads up and focus on the tournament, because it's tournament time."
