Bucs go 0-2 in Kansas After Tough Loss To Wichita State

WICHITA, KAN.: The Buccaneers could not recover from a slow start and lost to Wichita State 57-85 in Wichita, Kan. on Nov.13.

The Buccaneers were led by Saah Nimley who notched 12 points, four rebounds and five assists. Chris Grier had 13 points, five assists and chipped in with five boards. Three Buccaneers recorded two steals as Nimley, Grier, and Paul Gombwer each had two takeaways. As a team, the Bucs went 18-62 from the field (29%), 5-24 from deep (20.8%), snatched 35 rebounds, dished out 12, and totaled eight steals. CSU had an impressive 17 offensive rebounds compared to only 13 by Wichita State. Charleston Southern out shot WSU from the line 76% to 52%.

David Kyles led the Shockers with 19 points and Carl Hall had a team best nine boards. WSU shot 53.4% from the field and 50% from deep.

In the first half the Bucs had a tough time finding the hoop only shooting 14.8% from the field. Saah Nimley scored 10 of his team high 12 in the first, including 4-4 from the free throw line. CSU shot 9-9 from the charity stripe in the first half.

The Buccaneers showed tremendous improvement in the second half shooting an impressive 14-35 from the field (40%). Chris Grier scored all 13 of his points in the second half, shooting 4-6 from the field and 2-4 from beyond the arc. CSU outrebounded the Shockers in the second half 23-18 and out shot the Shockers from the free throw line 58.3%-44.4%.

The loss puts Charleston Southern at 0-2 for the season. The Buccaneers will return home on Nov. 15 to take on the Rams of Bluefield College at 7:30 p.m. in the Buc Dome.
