TROY, Ala. - The Charleston Southern women's tennis team opened
its weekend in Troy, Alabama with a 6-1 setback to Stetson
University Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
CSU is now 0-3 on the season following the loss, while the
Hatters of Stetson advance to 4-0 in 2011, defeating Troy Friday
and CSU today.
The Buccaneers' Heather Isbell won her match at No. 6 singles,
and teamed with Susita Das for victory at No. 3 doubles.
Clemson went 2-1 in doubles play, to earn the first point of the
match. The pair of Carolina de los Santos and Unnati Prushotham
defeated Marija Dzakovic and Olga Makhova, 8-3. MayaBlue
Stauffer-MacDowell and Sierra Sullivan beat Brooke Pletcher and
Alexandra Walters, 8-6. CSU's team of Das and Isbell beat Sesana
Aguirre and Jen Miller, 8-5.
Singles play featured some tightly-contested matches. De los
Santos defeated Makhova in three sets, 5-7, 7-5, 10-5, at No. 1
singles, while Stauffer-MacDowell won in three sets over Walters at
No. 4. Isbell claimed CSU's lone singles win at No. 6 with a 6-2,
6-3 victory over Lindsey Cable. Purushotham, the A-Sun Player of
the Week, defeated Makhova in straight sets.
The Buccaneers will next compete against Troy Sunday, Feb. 13 at
the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy, Alabama.
