CSU Baseball loses to North Florida, 7-0

CHARLESTON , S.C. - The Charleston Southern Buccaneers lost at a score of 7-0 at the hands of the North Florida Ospreys in the final game of the Charleston Southern's season opening series. The loss drops the Bucs to 1-2 on the season.

North Florida jumped out to a quick one run lead in the first, but would break the game open with a three-run inning in the 4th. Doubles by Smith and Perry helped NF plate three runs in the inning.

The Buccaneers were threatening in the bottom of the fourth down by four runs. Designated hitter Derek Smith doubled to left center and Walt Quattlebaum singled through the left side advancing Smith to third. Smith was thrown out at home after a ball was hit to left field.

Despite not scoring five different Buccaneers recorded a hit in today's rubber match.

Zach Hagaman pitched well in relief not allowing a run. George Schaefer also had a nice outing in the ninth with two strikeouts in his first appearance of the season.

The Ospreys bolstered their lead further in the sixth, and would add two more runs in the eighth.

Smith paced the Osprey offense with three hits and three RBI on the afternoon.

The Bucs next game will be against in state rival Furman on Tuesday. First pitch at Buccaneer field is scheduled for 2p.m.
