CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern dropped the third game of
a four game series to Fordham University at a score of 7-3. That
loss brings the series count to 2-1 and gives CSU an overall record
to 9-6 on the season.
Getting the start on the mound for CSU today was senior
right-hander Jesse Cadenhead. Cadenhead pitched four scoreless
innings and struck out eight batters on the afternoon.
Having a nice another nice day at the plate was senior Tom
Burkett who went 2-for-4 on the afternoon.
Fordham would get things started in the first inning when a two
run shot over the right field wall would put them ahead 2-0.
The Bucs would respond in the bottom of the first. Leadoff
hitter Brantley Meier would reach base with a single and eventually
reach home plate on a wild pitch making the score 2-1.
Neither team would score again until the fourth, when Fordham
would score two runs after hitting a double up the middle. The Bucs
would again respond by plating a run after a wild pitch found the
backstop, making the score 4-2. CSU had been thrown out in a close
play at home earlier in that inning on an attempt to tag up at
third and score on a fly ball to left field.
CSU would narrow the margin in the sixth inning when a deep fly
out from Meier that looked to be in the gap at first blush, would
score Zach Hagaman tagging up from third. That would make the score
4-3.
The Buccaneers would allow the Rams to score a run in each of
the final three innings, and were unable to muster a substantial
rally when up to bat.
Having a nice outing on the mound for the Rams was Chris Pike
who pitched 5.1 innings in relief and only allowed a single run to
Charleston Southern.
Charleston Southern leads the series against Fordham 2-1. The
final game of the series will be played tomorrow at 2 p.m. at CSU
Ballpark.
