Eagles Take Down Bucs, 5-2

Box score

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Alexandra Walters bested Winthrop's Ekin Gunaysu in a battle of last week's Big South Conference honorees, but it was not enough for Charleston Southern to prevail as the Eagles downed the Bucs, 5-2, on Friday afternoon.

Walters and Gunaysu earned league player and freshman of the week honors for the period from March 12-18, but it was CSU's (9-3, 2-1) Walters who made quick work of Gunaysu. The Adelaide, Australia native rolled to a 6-1 first set win, before blanking Gunaysu 6-0 to clinch the match.

Outside of a victory by Alia Nour at number six singles, however, it was all Winthrop (8-10, 4-0) as the Eagles claimed the top four singles bouts as well as all three doubles matchups.

CSU is back in action bright and early Saturday at 10 a.m. versus Gardner-Webb. The Bucs defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs, 4-3, at the Buccaneer Tennis Center last season.
