
Bucs conclude final day of the Duckworth Winter Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. - Mi'Kola Cooper, Valeria Koussenkova, Angelica Sidorenko, Chanel Bell, Gabriela Srodowski and Annika Wagner all picked up wins for Charleston Southern on the final day of the Duckworth Winter Classic.
CSU also picked up five wins on the doubles courts to wrap up their first action in the spring season as the Bucs closed out against No. 13 Clemson and Kennesaw State.
Cooper picked up the win in the consolation match in Flight One as the CSU junior was leading KSU's Jana Hueckinghaus 3-2 in the first set before the Owls' player retired. The third-place match between Yvonne Hubler and Marketa Placha ended in no contest, while Nicolin Luecke fell in the consolation championship to KSU's Virginie Stein, 6-1, 6-2.
In singles Flight Two, Koussenkova topped fellow teammate Sophie Cloessner, 6-2, before Cloessner retired from the third-place match. Sidorenko followed up in the consolation championship with a 6-2, 6-4 win over KSU's Alexandra Mercado.
Bell, Srodowski and Wagner all picked up wins in Flight Three on Sunday for the Bucs. Bell defeated fellow CSU teammate Kristen Farmer 6-3, 6-1 in the third-place match. Srodowski topped KSU's Isabela Castro 6-1, 6-2, in the consolation championship, while Wagner defeated KSU's Ashleigh De Wet 6-2, 6-0 in the seventh place match.
Meagan Evans fell in her lone match in the Round Robin Flight Four, dropping to KSU's Abbie Grant, 6-3, 6-3.
Doubles play saw CSU's Hubler and Luecke win both of their matches in Flight One, defeating teammates Sidorenko and Cooper 6-1, and KSU's Stein and Mercado, 6-2. Sidorenko and Cooper fell in their final doubles match to Clemson's Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies, 6-0.
The Round Robin Flight Two saw Koussenkova and Placha team-up to defeat teammates Srodowski and Bell, 7-6, and KSU's Hueckinghaus and Christina Martin, 6-3. Srodowski and Bell fell in their final match to Clemson's Tristen Dewar and Romy Koelzer, 6-2.
Flight three saw Cloessner and Wagner topped KSU's Castro and Gabriela Bueno, 6-3, in the semifinals. The CSU duo fell in the final match to Clemson's Joana Eidukonyte and Daniela Ruiz, 6-1.
Evans and Farmer fell in their semifinal matchup to Eidukonyte and Ruiz, 6-2, and dropped in the third place match to Castro and Bueno, 6-2.
The Buccaneers open up the 2015 regular season on Tuesday, February 17th on the road at Savannah State. First serve between the Bucs and the Tigers is set for 1 p.m.
