Volleyball Preview: Bucs close out regular season at High Point, Campbell

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern opens their final weekend tonight against High Point as the Buccaneers face the Panthers and the Campbell Camels to wrap up the 2015 volleyball regular season. The Bucs take on the Panthers tonight at 7 p.m. in the Millis Center, while CSU closes out the season in Gore Arena on Saturday with first serve against Campbell at 4 p.m.

CSU Match Notes at High Point*, at Campbell*

Scouting High Point
High Point enters the Thursday night matchup with a 20-8 overall record, 10-2 in Big South play on the season sitting second overall in the Big South standings entering the final week of play. The Panthers have boasted a 10-3 overall record at home inside the Millis Center in the 2015 season and have won their past six matchups at home including wins over Campbell, Radford, Liberty, Winthrop and Presbyterian. 

Haley Barnes leads the Panthers offensive attack with 3.29 kills per set, while four High Point players are averaging multiple kills per set on the season. Molly Livingston is the team's hitting leader at .362. Gabi Mirand sets up the Panthers' offense with 8.27 assists per set. Defensively, Annemarie Chin leads the Big South with 5.69 digs per set, while Jordan Hefner is the blocking leader with 0.86 blocks per set. 

Previously against High Point
Charleston Southern fell in straight sets to visiting High Point on October 20 in the Buc Dome as the Buccaneers fell 25-19, 25-17, 25-22. Meredith Parrott and Addison Kaderli led the Bucs with six kills apiece on the night as CSU fell to 6-18, 1-6 in Big South play with the loss. Kadeli led the Buccaneers' defense with 14 digs, while Ashley Higginbothem was in double-digits with 12 digs. Kylie Klein added five blocks at the net for CSU.

Scouting Campbell
Campbell enters the weekend with a 11-15 overall record, 5-7 in Big South play on the season. The Camels will host Big South leader Coastal Carolina on Thursday night before welcoming the Bucs to Gore Arena on Saturday afternoon in the regular season final for both teams. The Camels are 4-5 at home this year with Big South wins over Presbyterian and Winthrop, and are coming off of a big win this past Saturday as Campbell topped Liberty in five sets. 

Katelyn Layden leads the Camels offense on the season with 2.37 kills per set, while Rachel Harty is also among the team leaders with 2.16 kills per set. Jenny Tait leads the team with a .261 hitting percentage from the floor. Rebecca Ramirez (5.98) and Summer Schuitema (4.20) both set up the Camels offense on the season. Mary Crema leads the defensive efforts with 4.82 digs per set, while Tait is the blocking leader with 0.86 blocks per set. 

Previously against Campbell
Charleston Southern was unable to build off of a strong start on October 13 in the Buc Dome as the Buccaneers fell to Campbell in four sets, 26-28, 25-16, 25-21, 25-19. Krista Kuglin led the Bucs (5-16, 0-5) with 10 kills on the night, while Katrina Houston had eight to pace the CSU offense. Cassidy Greer (15) and Brooke Green (11) combined for 26 assists from the floor. Madison Martin had a season-high four service aces in the loss.

Recapping the Weekend
Charleston Southern recognized their 2015 seniors at home this past Friday as Meredith Parrott, Ashley Higginbothem, Cassidy Greer and Katrina Houston all played their final home match of their collegiate career inside the Buc Dome. The highly decorated senior class have made their mark on the CSU career record books with Higginbothem sitting second all-time in career digs, Parrott sixth all-time in kills, Greer fifth all-time in assists and Houston 10th all-time in career kills. 

CSU opened the week with their fourth consecutive win with a 3-0 sweep over The Citadel in earning the season split in the series with the Bulldogs. Their four-match winning streak was the longest since the 2009 season when the Bucs won five in a row during a mid-season stretch. 

Meredith Parrott blasted her way through the competition on the week with the senior middle blocker averaging 3.83 kills per set, a .370 hitting percentage and 1.33 blocks per set against Coastal Carolina and The Citadel. 

Madison Martin led the CSU defensive efforts on the week with a team-high 30 digs, averaging 5.00 per set. Martin had 12 digs in Tuesday night's sweep over The Citadel, then added a team-high 18 digs against Coastal Carolina on Friday night.
