RADFORD, VA. - Charleston Southern volleyball punched their ticket to the Big South Tournament with a 3-2 win over the Radford Highlanders on Saturday night. A kill from
Abby Vacha capped off a comeback win for the Buccaneers that sends them to the postseason.
The Buccaneers (14-14, 6-8) took down Radford (10-16, 6-8) in an exciting five-set match. A high stakes match, the winner clinched berth into next week's Big South Tournament.
The Bucs got off to a good start, taking the first set by a final score of 25-23 before dropping the next two. CSU would take the fourth and fifth set in come from behind fashion to secure the win. In a back-and-fourth fourth set, Radford led 23-21 before CSU scored four points in a row to force a fifht set. The Bucs trailed 11-14 in the final set, but scored five straight points to take the match
Senior
Brooke Monssen led the way with 28 kills on the match to go with 10 digs, marking her eighth double-double this season.
Macey LaPorte turned in four aces along with her 10 kill effort.
Rachel Feggeler tallied 14 kills while
Paige Reagor picked up 11.
Caitlyn Michalski was efficient with 10 kills on just 16 attacks.
Emma Minnick assisted on 36 kills, the most between both teams despite splitting the setting duties with
Emilee Karelse, who totaled 25 assists.
Defensively for the Bucs, senior libero
Skylar Blackmon led the team with 13 digs in the win. Reagor made a difference in the defensive game as well with two solo and six assisted blocks.
The Big South Tournament awaits the Buccaneers next week. They'll square off against the third-seeded Campbell Camels at 7pm from the Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill, S.C. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
