Weekend Preview
The Charleston Southern Volleyball team hits the road to Wilmington this Friday to open the season at the UNC Wilmington Hampton Inns Invitational where they will take on UNF, Duquesne, and host UNCW.
Friday will see a pair of matches against North Florida and Duquesne while Saturday will feature a single match against the host Seahawks. This weekend marks the first time since 2016 the Bucs will open the season in Wilmington, N.C.Â
CSU will see six returners on the court as well as seven true freshmen.,

Macey LaPorte all return after recording triple-digit kills for the Bucs in their 2018 campaign.Â

North Florida
North Florida begins its second season under head coach Kristen Wright. In 2018, the team finished sixth in the standings with a 6-10 record in conference play.

The Ospreys add nine newcomers to the roster this year, including three transfers. Last season's team leaders were Gabby O'Connell and Taryn Griffey. O'Connell led the team in kills (320) and digs (325), while Griffey led the team in points (384.5), blocks (105) and was second in kills (317).Â

Duquesne
The Atlantic 10 Conference named the Duquesne Dukes to finish sixth in the conference,earning 51 points. The poll was voted on by the 10 head coaches in the conference.

The Seahawks, who saw four starters graduate from last season, were picked to finish sixth in the coaches poll.
Senior middle blockerÂ
Kendall Bender was named to the Colonial Athletic Association preseason team, earning an honorable mention spot. Bender is UNCW's top-returning blocker from 2018 and ranked second in the CAA with 126 total blocks. She was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions. Against tournament host Georgetown, Bender tied a UNCW program record with 11 blocks and earned all-tournament honors.
