Box Score WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Buccaneer volleyball team closed out their opening weekend tournament this Saturday afternoon after suffering a lost at the hands of host, UNC Wilmington.
How it Happened (UNCW 3, CSU 0)
- In the first set, the Bucs got off to an early lead and would go neck and neck with the Seahawks before dropping the set.
- The team kept it close after Carsyn Starr provided three kills in four points to bring the team within one.
- Heading into a timeout, the Seahawks held a 22-19 lead and would finish out the set with three kills.
- Starr finished the first set hitting .455 with five kills and a pair of blocks while Paige Reagor recorded two kills on three attempts.
- The Seahawks came out firing in the second set leading by as many as seven points before CSU would pull within three.
- Brooke Monssen would pick up four kills in the set to pair with three digs. She would end the day with seven kills and nine digs.
- In the third set, the Seahawks carried a large lead before an 8-0 run by the Bucs to tie up the game.
- The Seahawks would regain the lead after back to back blocking errors and hang on to secure the match.
Freshmen Step Up
- Rachel Feggeler shined defensively for the Buccaneers tallying two solo blocks with three and a half blocking assists.
- Carsyn Starr led all Bucs with 11 kills on 29 attacks with a kill percentage of .379.
- Paige Reagor joined in with four kills to go with four blocking assists on the day.
- Freshman setter, Emilee Karelse dished out ten assists to go with a service ace.
