Box Score ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Charleston Southern volleyball team dropped a match to top ranked Winthrop in four sets this Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 - WIN 26, CSU 24
SET 2 - CSU 34, WIN 32
SET 3 - WIN 25, CSU 17
SET 4 - WIN 25, CSU
-In the first set, the Bucs garnered a chance at set point but were unable to capitalize. The Eagles would record a pair of points to secure the first set 26-24.
-After dropping set one, CSU came out firing in the second, going on a 5-0 run to force an Eagle timeout. The Eagles would battle back and take the lead 15-13 after back to back blocking assists. It would go neck and neck tied at 24 with Emilee Karlese recording her first solo block of the year to tie things up for the Bucs. The set would go back and forth until eventually the Bucs would take the victory by a final score 34-32.
-In the third set, the Bucs got off to a tough start, committing a few attacking error that lead to a four-point Eagle lead. Winthrop would continue to push and take the third and fourth set.
Current Big South Player of the Week,
Brooke Monssen recorded her 11th consecutive match with double-digit kills for the Bucs after tallying 26 kills through four sets. This marks the highest amount of kills for Monssen in her career as a Buc. This also sets a new record for third place for kills in a single match of four sets.
Emilee Karelse also etched her name into the record books after tallying 51 assists, good for eighth in school history for a single match.
Skylar Blackmon led the Bucs with 28 digs while
Paige Reagor aided in the offense with 11 kills and defensively tallied 5 blocking assists and one solo block.
Macey LaPorte and
Rachel Feggeler tallied seven kills apiece while
Caitlyn Michalski added four on fivev attempts, finishing with a hitting percentage of .800.
