CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball dropped its fourth contest in a row falling 67-56 to Jacksonville Friday night in the latter contest of the twinbill at the Buc Dome. The Bucs were without
Sadarius Bowser, as the senior big man missed his second straight game due to injury.
The first two buckets of the affair came from beyond the arc, as Jordan Davis and
Tahlik Chavez traded treys to jumpstart the offense for both teams. Jacksonville answered with a quick 11-5 run to create some separation, but
Sean Price and the CSU offense would answer back with a 6-0 on their own with Price finishing two layups and
Taje' Kelly adding a bucket as well.
Kalib Clinton came alive in the waning minutes of the first half for Charleston Southern, scoring five straight points to bring the game to just a point at 18-17 in favor of the Dolphins. The rest of the opening stanza was played back-and-forth as Chavez and
Deontaye Buskey each had big plays. Chavez hit a three and Buskey finished two from the charity stripe, but Jacksonville took a 27-23 lead into the midway break.
Mike Marsh led the way for the Dolphin offense, finishing the half with eight points. Bryce Workman had a strong showing as well, collecting four rebounds to add to his six points. Gaysi Powell and Tommy Bruner each had five points to round out the Jacksonville attack. Chavez had his two treys to lead the CSU attack, while Price and Clinton added five.
Charleston Southern opened the closing stanza with some noise as the first four points went to the Bucs, capped off by a Price steal and slam to pump the Buc Dome up, but Jacksonville answered the call. The Dolphins would rattle off 15 straight points in the minutes that followed to take full control of the contest.
The contest would stay at double-digits throughout most of the remainder of the half, but Price would cut it to nine after a fast break layup fell with 2:47 to play.
Claudell Harris Jr. had the best half of any Buc this season as well to keep CSU within striking distance. The freshman wing finished the half with 18 points on 6-7 shooting, including 2-3 from range
The Dolphins had three players finish with double figures as Marsh led the pod with 14. Davis added 11 and Bruner 10 while Workman was a point and two boards away from a double-double. For the Bucs, it was Harris that led the way with his 18-point second-half outburst. Price contributed 13 points and eight boards in his return to the lineup after missing the previous contest via injury.
