After pushing top-ranked High Point to the brink in both matches of a doubleheader last week, Charleston Southern heads to Gardner-Webb for a pair of 4 p.m. matches from Paul Porter Arena.
The second-place VolleyBucs hold a 7-3 record with six matches left in the regular season and their chance for a top-three finish in the Big South Standings, a first for the Bucs since the 1994 season when the Bucs finished second.
Paige Reagor,
Dayana Chara and
Peyton Thompson all have 120-plus kills for the Bucs who sit third in the Big South as a whole with 13.26 per set, also good for No. 68 in the nation. CSU's .239 hitting percentage also ranks No. 52 in the NCAA and second behind only league-leading High Point in the Big South.
Meanwhile, Gardner-Webb enters the series with a 3-9 record having taken down Campbell 3-1 their last time out and splitting the home series. The Runnin' Bulldogs have split three series with Campbell, Presbyterian and USC Upstate on the season as they rank No. 56 in the nation in blocks per set (2.36/set) and lead the Big South in the same category.
Kylee Garrison is the lone Runnin' Bulldog with 100 kills on the season as Gardner-Webb has struggled with a .099 hitting percentage. Defensively they hold opponents to just .173 thanks to their 104 total team blocks. Delany McCullough and Alexandria Roycraft both have 40-plus blocks to lead the way.
Friday and Saturday mark the 28th and 29th all-time meetings with the Bucs dominating the series 20-7 and having won six-straight and four of those six coming by 3-0 sweeps. None of the last six have gone a full five sets between the two programs. Charleston Southern also owns the Big South regular season series 14-5 and are 9-3 inside Paul Porter Arena and winning four-straight on the road.
