Return to CSU Softball Complex for Mercer series awaits Buccaneers

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern softball returns to a field in which it's familiar, the CSU Softball Complex, for a weekend series with Mercer looking to snap a four-game skid. The Buccaneers and Bears will meet in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. with the same time set for Sunday's series finale.

LOOKING TO BREAK
The Bucs hope the return to their home facility breaks the current stretch that has landed them at 5-10 entering the weekend. Three of those victories have come at home, including a 5-2 triumph over Virginia for the first win against a Power 5 opponent since 2017 – which also happened to be the Cavaliers.

CONSISTENCY IN THE LINEUP
Five players have started all 15 games – Ashley Meckley, SeaEnna Satcher, Gracie Prince, Madison Koger and Weslin Jones. That group has combined to accumulate 61 hits, 23 of extra bases including Koger owning the only triple for the squad thus far. Satcher's 10 RBI place her second behind the 11 from Raleigh Lewis. Satcher, Prince and Koger have clubbed two home runs apiece, just shy of Lewis' team-high three. Meckley also has one on her early-season resume to round out the 10 belted by the Buccaneers.

THREE ARMS IN THE CIRCLE
All but 4.2 of the 97.0 innings pitched this spring by the Charleston Southern staff have come from the arms of three players: Anna Junge leads the trio with 42.1 innings, including three complete games. Blake Holtorf has gone the distance in two of her appearances, accumulating 28.0 innings, while Baylee Eaton has tossed 22.0 innings in 2022. Maggie Carpenter rounds out the staff with the remaining time in the circle.

ABOUT MERCER
The Bears, under the direction of first-year head coach Lindsay Fico, are 3-12 this spring and also have lost their last four-in-a-row. The Southern Conference foe has picked up triumphs over Loyola Chicago and two against Jacksonville. The program play hosted to the Mercer Invitational, last weekend, and were swept by Middle Tennessee and Murray State in the four games.

SERIES HISTORY
The two sides have met 24 times since 1997, but not since 2011, with the Buccaneers last claiming a win in 2004 at the GSU Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia.
