CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern volleyball team released their 2023 schedule on Thursday, as the VolleyBucs begin the 2023 season under new leadership.
Kicking It Off,
First-year Head Coach Carry Brown will lead her team into Charlotte, N.C. to open the season to take on the 49ers of UNC Charlotte on Aug. for one of two matches. The latter of the two will take place at 5:30 p.m. against Coastal Georgia and round out opening weekend against Elon at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26.
The first home matches for the VolleyBucs will take place on the weekend of Sept. 1 and 2, as three teams as a part of a non-conference tournament. NC A&T, SIUC and UT Chattanooga will be the three opponents in the home-opening tournament for the Bucs.
After that, the big match against The College of Charleston will be on Sept. 5 inside The Buc Dome starting at 6 p.m., as the VolleyBucs look to make it two wins in two years against the Cougars. Last year's game featured the largest home crowd for the VolleyBucs of the 2022 campaign.
Then, the team will head to Auburn on Sept. 8 and 9 for a tournament that also includes Middle Tenn. State and Mercer. The matchup with SEC-foe, Auburn will be at 8 p.m. est. on Sept. 8.
In their final tournament before Big South play begins, the VolleBucs will play host to The Citadel at 3 p.m on Sept. 16. Florida A&M and South Carolina State will be the other two teams involved in tournament that takes place Sept. 15 and 16.
Conference Opener
The conference slate, which includes 14 total matches, begins on Thursday, Sept. 22, as the VolleyBucs host the Presbyterian Blue Hose at the Buc Dome, and the first road-conference game will the following Thursday, when the VolleyBucs head to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on the USC Upstate Spartans.
Conference Home Matches
The VolleyBucs will host six other conference home matches, including Winthrop (Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.), Gardner-Webb (Oct. 7 at 2 p.m.), Radford (Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.), High Point (Oct. 14 at 2 p.m.), UNC Asheville (October 27 at 6 p.m.) and USC Upstate (Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.).
Conference Road Matches
Charleston Southern's six other conference are the following: UNC Asheville (Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.), Gardner-Webb (Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.), Winthrop (Oct.21 at 2 p.m.), High Point (Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.), Radford (Nov. 4 at 4 p.m.) and Presbyterian (Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.).
Big South Tournament
The conference tournament will take place on Nov. 18 and 19 in High Point. The VolleyBucs were able to qualify last year as a No. 4 seed, losing to top-seed Campbell in the first round.
Under first-year Head Coach, Carry Brown, the VolleyBucs look to build off of a season where they finished with a 15-16 record and a top-four finish in the Big South.
