CHARLESTON – The Big South Conference announced on Monday morning that Charleston Southern will now serve as the official host for the 2024 Big South Cross Country Championships. The meet will be held on the morning of Friday, November 1 on the campus of the university.
"We are very pleased to have the opportunity to host the Big South Conference Cross Country Championships on our campus," said Jeff Barber, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. "Our teams have had fantastic success over the last number of years and this is a great opportunity for our fans to be able to watch them compete at this very important race."
This marks the first time that Charleston Southern will have hosted the meet in 18 years as the last time they were hosts was the 2006 season. At the meet, the Buccaneer men and women each finished in 9
th. This will be the 6
th time in school history that CSU has hosted the Championship meet as they also have from 1989-1991 and 2000.
"We are pleased to have been awarded the opportunity to host this year's championship meet for the first time since I arrived in Charleston," shared Director of Track & Field and Cross Country,
Jim Stintzi. "We cannot wait to showcase our university to everyone from the conference office as well as the coaches, administrators and student-athletes from around the league! We are looking forward to a great day of racing and another perfect day in our great city."
The men's team will be vying for the 5
th consecutive championship title while the women are seeking their first-ever. For each of the last two seasons, they have been placed as the runner ups, their best finishes in school history. With a victory on the men's side, it will match the Campbell five-peat from the 2015-2019 seasons and rank as tied for the third longest championship streak in league history.
