Led by Big South Coach of the Year Barclay Radebaugh, Big South Player of the Year Saah Nimley and a dynamic senior class, Charleston Southern put together one of the best seasons in school history in 2014-15.  Test-pls work
CSU compiled the winningest regular season in the program’s 50-year history, going 19-10 overall and 13-5 in Big South Conference play. The Bucs captured their second Big South regular season championship in the last three years, and advanced to the National Invitation Tournament. Radebaugh’s squad again made the most of the experience, leading top-seeded Old Dominion at halftime before falling in a tightly contested game.
CSU clinched the Big South title in thrilling fashion, topping co-champion High Point, 97-93, in triple overtime before a standing room-only Buc Dome crowd. Nimley poured in 36 of his 38 points after halftime in that epic bout as he, Arlon Harper, Will Saunders, Cedrick Bowen and Paul Gombwer made their final home game more than memorable.
CSU began the campaign in a big way by knocking off Ole Miss, 66-65, in overtime. Cedrick Bowen earned the number one spot on SportsCenter’s Top-10 Plays countdown with a put-back dunk at the buzzer of the extra session. The Bucs led the NCAA Tournament-bound Rebels by 12 points at halftime in delivering their second-ever win over a power conference opponent.
Radebaugh and Nimley spearheaded CSU to the top of a Big South Conference that was as strong as ever before. Seven teams were tied first place 12 games into league play, and five clubs ended up advancing to national postseason play. CSU posted a pair of five-game winning streaks in conference action to vault its way to the title.
Nimley was the impetus for CSU’s success, as the senior point guard rebounded from a serious knee injury to post one of the best seasons in school history. He finished the season ranked 5th nationally in scoring average and made three-pointers per game, averaging 21.4 PPG and a whopping 25.6 PPG in league play. Nimley scored over 20 points 17 times and went over the 30-point mark in seven of CSU’s final 14 regular season games. He was the only player in the country to record four consecutive 30-point efforts.
The accolades rolled in for Nimley following the year, highlighted by an Honorable Mention Associated Press All-American selection. Nimley was named a finalist for Lou Henson National Player of the Year honors, and earned a spot on the NABC All-District 3 team for the second time in three years. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native finished his career as CSU’s all-time leader in assists and made free throws. Nimley ranks second in CSU history in threes, third in scoring and is the only player in Big South history with over 1,800 points and 500 assists.
Nimley and Arlon Harper finished their careers as the third-highest scoring four-year classmate combination in Big South history. Along with Cedrick Bowen and Paul Gombwer, the Bucs’ fourth-year seniors, with 70 wins, capped their time at CSU as the second winningest class in program history.
