ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Kylie Klein led the Buccaneers with nine kills as Charleston Southern hit .280 as a team in sweeping host South Carolina State for the second time this season, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20.

Meredith Parrott added seven kills and four blocks, while Amanda Metz had seven kills and five digs for the Bucs as CSU improved to 8-13 overall in the 2014 season with the victory. S.C. State fell to 1-17 overall with the loss.

Cassidy Greer set up the Bucs offense with 15 assists, while Kirsten Struksnes added nine assists of her own. Taylor Allman had a match-high nine digs to go with two service aces, while Connor Malone added three blocks at the net to pace the Bucs in the non-conference midweek matchup.

Marissa Lawrence led S.C. State with nine kills, while Erica Pritchett had eight as the Bulldogs hit .057 as a team. Melanie Williams set up the SCSU offense with 14 assists, while Tyler Ockleberry and Shandice Sluch had six digs apiece.

The first set was the most tightly contested frame of the night as the teams traded nine ties and seven lead changes over the first 26 points. Following an SCSU service error to knot the match up at 13-13, the Bucs went on a 6-0 run taking an 18-13 lead aided by two blocks by Katrina Houston and Parrott. The Bucs pressed the advantage throughout the remainder of the set, going up by as many as six on Klein's solo block before an SCSU attack error gave the Bucs the 25-18 set win.

S.C. State held the early lead through the first nine points of the match before CSU tied the frame up for the last time at 5-5 following the combined block by Parrott and Malone. The Bucs rattled off seven of the next nine points with Taylor Marin placing in a service ace on their way to building a 20-14 lead. CSU closed out the frame and took the 2-0 advantage on back-to-back Klein kills and a Greer service ace to take the 25-16 win.

CSU never trailed in the final set, going up by as many as six at 16-10 following back-to-back kills by Houston. S.C. State rallied and was able to cut the margin down to four at 23-19 following a CSU attack error, but the Bucs took two of the next three points in completing the sweep inside Dukes Gymnasium.

The Buccaneers return home this weekend for Big South Conference play as CSU hosts Coastal Carolina inside the Buc Dome on Friday night. First serve between the Bucs and the Chanticleers is set for 7 p.m.
