Buccaneers unable to keep up with N.C. State in extra-inning affair

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern surrendered six runs in the top of the eighth as the Buccaneers were unable to keep pace with visiting North Carolina State on Tuesday afternoon at the CSU Softball Field, 8-2.
The Buccaneers (6-22) tied the game up on Caitlyn Emberson's two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to extend the game into extra innings. The Wolfpack (16-8) responded with Skylar Johnston, Logan Morris, and Randi Farricker all leaving the yard in the top of the extra frame to secure their second win over the Bucs this season.
Brooklynn Brewington went 2-for-3 from the plate in the contest to lead the Bucs from the plate in the game. Emberson's two-run home run was her team-leading fourth of the season, while Madison Koger added a single in the game.
Arizona Pilgrim (3-11) went the first seven innings before the Wolfpack started to touch the senior right-hander in the eighth. She finished the game allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out three.
N.C. State recorded 14 hits, eight in the eighth inning, with four players recording multi-hit games in the win.
Devin Wallace (7-5) went the first seven innings in the win allowing four hits and two runs (one earned). Brittany Nimmo went the final frame with two strikeouts in closing out the contest.

- Sarah Russ put the Wolfpack ahead 1-0 with an RBI single scoring Kelli Wagner in the top of the third inning.
- N.C. State added its second run on Natalie Jones' RBI double to centerfield scoring Chandley Garner.
- Emberson evened the game with a two-run home run with none out in the bottom of the seventh scoring Jade Gandara.
- Johnston, Morris, and Farricker all homered in the eighth inning, while Brigette Nordberg added a two-run single to secure the win for N.C. State.
