BOSTON – Charleston Southern Track and Field opened their 2023-2024 schedule on Saturday at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener with the men's indoor 5K record falling as well as the top five times being rewritten. The Buccaneers sent four athletes to compete at the meet hosted by Boston University to each compete in the 5K among a star-studded field.
 
The day began with Sam Waldin running the fastest indoor 5K time in school history, eclipsing the old mark but a second with his time of 14:31.31 in the morning session race. By the end of the day, his time stood as the second-fastest in CSU history. In his heat, he finished in 7^th in a field of over 20 runners.
 
The newly set top time lasted for about 11 hours as Jaden Kingsley delivered posted another one of the top races of his career, fresh off his XC All-Region performance. He finished with a time of 14:12.06, nearly 30 seconds faster than his previous personal best and over 20 seconds faster than the previous record in the event. Kinglsey took 10th in the heat that he competed in.
 
Conan Harper also competed during the meet to make his track debut with the Buccaneers. He crossed the line at 14:43.53 to take the 4th-best to be ran in CSU history. 

Micah Gilpatric competed unattached in the race and dropped an even faster time as he turned in a sub-14 run. He finished with a time of 13:57.72 to take 11^th in his heat, knocking off runners from Oregon, Arkansas, Auburn and Oklahoma State in it.
 
The team returns to the track after the Christmas Break with them slated to compete at the University of South Carolina in the Gamecock Opener on Saturday, January 13.
