CHARLESTON, S.C. - Staying home in Charleston is Ashton Giet, the lone South Carolina native from Summerville. Giet attends Fort Dorchester High School and competes with the Carolina Cardinals National – Chandler club team.
Giet will be spending time behind the plate as well as first base while with the Bucs. She will also bring a strong bat to the lineup as a right-handed power hitter. Giet was selected as Team Captain this past year while leading her team in home runs, runs batted in and on base percentage. As the starting catcher, she led the state with an 80% caught-stealing rate. Extra Inning Softball selected her as one of the top 100 catchers in the nation.
Head Coach Christi Musser on Ashton Giet:
"You always want to keep your local talent at home, and I couldn't be happier that Ashton [Giet] decided to stay at home in Charleston. She is going to give a strong arm and solid defense behind the plate as well as help us with depth at first base as well. She has incredible power at the plate, and I expect she will put up some big numbers offensively. I could not imagine her wearing any other uniform other than a Buccaneer uniform."
Ashton Giet on her decision to sign with Charleston Southern:
"Charleston Southern feels like home. On my visit, Coach Christi, Coach Ashley and all the players made it feel like family and not just a team. After that, I really couldn't picture myself anywhere else."
