Drummond takes the track at the University of Oregon vying for All-American status in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in the same calendar year. He finished 7th in the long jump at March's Indoor National Championships to pick up First Team All-American honors.
Drummond, who jumped 7.66 meters at the NCAA East Regional to earn a spot in Thursday's field of 24 competitors, enters seeded ninth. A top-eight finish would again garner First Team recognition, while a top-16 showing would be good for Second Team accolades.
"It feels great to be here," said the Spartanburg, S.C. native. "It's an honor to make it to both because not everybody has the opportunity to do so. I'm just thankful I was able to. It would be a pleasure to be an All-American in both just to know all my hard work paid off and got me where I needed to be. I'm just hoping God will bless me with the ability to be an All-American in both indoor and outdoor."
Drummond's top career mark is 7.71 meters, a Big South Conference record that he established in winning February's Alex Wilson Invitational. Marquis Dendy of Florida comes into competition with the top distance of 7.82 meters.
